  5.  OARnet Acceptable Use Policy

  9.  This policy represents a guide to the acceptable use of OARnet.  OARnet 
  10.  provides access to state, national and international resources to its clients 
  11.  through connections with networks outside OARnet.  In general, it is the 
  12.  responsibility of those networks to enforce their own acceptable use policies. 
  13.  OARnet will inform its clients of any restrictions on use of networks to which 
  14.  it is directly connected.

  16.  OARnet accepts no responsibility for traffic which it originates which violates 
  17.  the acceptable use policy of any directly or indirectly connected networks 
  18.  beyond informing the client that they are in violation if the connected 
  19.  network so informs OARnet.

  21.  1.      Use of OARnet must be consistent with the goals of facilitating and 
  22.  disseminating knowledge, encouraging collaborative projects and 
  23.  resource sharing, aiding technology transfer to Ohio businesses, fostering 
  24.  innovation and competitiveness within Ohio, and building broader 
  25.  infrastructure in support of education and research.

  27.  2.      It is not acceptable to use OARnet for illegal purposes.

  29.  3.      It is not acceptable to use OARnet to transmit threatening, obscene, or 
  30.  harassing materials.

  32.  4.      It is not acceptable to use OARnet so as to interfere with or disrupt 
  33.  network users, services, or equipment.  Disruptions include, but are not 
  34.  limited to, distribution of unsolicited advertising, propagation of 
  35.  computer worms or viruses, and using the network to make 
  36.  unauthorized entry to any other machine accessible via the network.

  38.  5.      It is assumed that information and resources available via OARnet are 
  39.  private to those individuals and organizations which own or hold rights 
  40.  to those resources and information and unless specifically stated 
  41.  otherwise by the owners or holders of the rights.  It is therefore not 
  42.  acceptable for an individual to use OARnet to access information or 
  43.  resources unless permission to do so has been granted by the owners or 
  44.  holders of rights to those resources and information.

  46.  6.      OARnet will review violations of our Acceptable User Policy on a case-
  47.  by-case basis.  Clear violations which are not promptly remedied by the 
  48.  client organization may result in termination of OARnet network 
  49.  services.
